Using digital platforms to foster innovation

Innovation expert Timothy Kastelle’s ambition is to build a more innovative south-east Queensland. He is inspiring business leaders, entrepreneurs and students to execute new ideas that add value to business.

As associate professor at the University of Queensland’s (UQ) Business School, Tim has an interest in innovation management and its application in startups, research commercialisation, and corporate innovation.

Tim uses a variety of digital media to build the innovation ecosystem in his region. He provides educational resources and encourages entrepreneurial thinking via:

  • an informative blog called ‘The Discipline of Innovation’ with around 1000 subscribers, that is designed to help businesses become more entrepreneurial
  • an online short course that develops students’ entrepreneurial mind-set
  • innovation and entrepreneurship resources shared through a variety of social media platforms.

Tim also encourages others to use digital tools to support their innovation goals. Drawing from his own experiences, he regularly speaks about using social media and blogging effectively in academia and to connect with stakeholders.

In addition, Tim is a member of the UQ early stage business incubator initiative, iLab. He mentors high-tech startups, helping them to navigate the path to innovation and growth.

As a digital champion, Tim will continue to provide educational resources that inspire and build innovation in the south-east Queensland business sector.
