Steven Pace - Round 1, 2018 Champions

A dedicated digital media educator

For more than 20 years, Steven Pace has been inspiring, innovating and informing in the field of digital media education and research.

Steven is associate professor and head of digital media at Central Queensland University’s Mackay campus. Steven is held in high regard as a leading educator and has received many accolades and awards including the National ICT Educator of the Year and the Australian Learning and Teaching Council Citation for Outstanding Contributions to Student Learning.

Steven extends his passion for digital media education beyond the university walls by actively engaging with school students, local businesses and community groups.

Over the past few years, Steven has undertaken many community projects including:

  • high school workshops that involved interesting practical activities such as creating a 3D animation and designing a mobile game prototype
  • video production workshops for young Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders, in collaboration with national youth mental health foundation, Headspace
  • digital media production workshops supporting young people to explore career options as they transition to independent living, in collaboration with Life without Barriers
  • university student projects designed to engage with local businesses
  • free public events that featured enticing guest speakers from Oscar-winning visual effects studios.

Steven was first recognised as a Community Digital Champion in 2016. As a continuing digital champion, Steven will encourage a deeper knowledge of digital media technologies in his many roles as researcher, teacher, digital education and training expert, and public speaker.

He also plans to continue with his community workshops, combining valuable hands-on experience with an insight into how digital technologies are reshaping our future.
