Inspiring the next generation

Ricky Sinclair is an inspirational high school teacher leading the way in preparing the next generation for our digital future.

Ricky is head of ICT curriculum and innovation at the Good Shepherd Lutheran College on the Sunshine Coast, where he has successfully expanded and added value to his school’s curriculum by incorporating digital technologies into a number of subjects. Ricky’s work programs assist students to embrace new technologies and digital solutions.

Ricky’s enthusiasm for his students’ digital technology education extends to co-ordinating extra-curricular activities as well. He has established clubs for everything from human powered vehicle design to game design. He is also involved with the FIRST LEGO League and South East Queensland Robotics. The Senior Robotics Club he established at his school won the 2016 Queensland FIRST Tech Challenge and went on to claim the national title, subsequently representing Australia at the world championships in the USA.

Ricky is passing on his passion for new technologies by:

  • creating engaging and highly relevant programs that involve a range of external organisations such as Central Queensland University Digital Media Faculty, and FIRST Tech Challenge
  • motivating more female students to become involved in STEM subjects by introducing them to inspirational female role models currently working in IT, and breaking down gender barriers
  • volunteering to co-ordinate various local clubs and competitions, making digital technologies fun, challenging and inclusive for young people in his community.

As an enthusiastic digital champion, Ricky has set his sights on advancing STEM through local competitions and learning opportunities for students.
