Lee Crockford

Stimulating a global digital conversation on mental health

Lee Crockford is CEO of Spur Projects (spurprojects.org), an all-volunteer, not-for-profit organisation that uses digital platforms to tackle men's mental health and suicide prevention.

Lee is passionate about mental health, social change and education and has been a true innovator, leading Spur Projects’ digital strategy and managing a growing team of young volunteers.

Lee's current projects includes How is the World Feeling? —the world’s largest, real-time, mental health survey. It aims to have 7 million participants and 70 million emotions logged via a free app for smart devices and will run from October 10–16 2016.

The app has been designed with 3 key aims:

  • to stimulate a global conversation about the importance of mental health and encourage people to talk
  • as a wellness tracker for people to review the different emotions they feel in day
  • to create the largest, open-source database of emotions in the world, allowing individuals, business or government to create more effective mental health initiatives.

The data collection will allow very detailed analysis, for example, of which demographic groups are feeling particular mental health pressures and at which times of the day, an invaluable tool when designing new initiatives.

Lee and Spur also run other socially innovative online campaigns related to mental health including:

  • Soften the F__k up
  • Get Silent. Get Heard
  • The Blue Letterbox.

Lee also gives his time to speak at government and university events, as well as running workshops at schools.

Lee is also CEO of Assemblus, which works to amplify sustainable social impacts within companies, charities and not-for-profit organisations.

Lee will continue to work with digital platforms in creating socially innovative campaigns to address men’s mental health issues.

Lee is nominated by: Impact Academy
