Joy Taylor is the Community Manager for the Canvas Coworking Space where she shares her passion for people, new ideas, collaboration and embracing digital opportunities.
Canvas Coworking Inc. is a not-for-profit association and Toowoomba’s first coworking space for start-ups, entrepreneurs and digital nomads of the Darling Downs and South West Queensland. The organisation encourages entrepreneurship and fosters social enterprise.
Through her work Joy connects entrepreneurs, designers, developers, hackers, makers, hipsters, creatives, mentors and investors and supports the growth of innovative businesses to drive the region’s economic growth.
Joy is passionate about building the start-up ecosystem in the region and aims to support those who want to turn their ideas into reality!
Joy has initiated innovative sharing and learning including:
Start-up Bootcamps — eight-week programs to help new entrepreneurs
The Pulse Collective — an accountability group for female founders with a focus on the back end of a business and building confidence
Wordpress Meetups — for those learning to use Wordpress
Build a Website — Wordpress website building classes
Lunch and Learns — topics include LinkedIn, Google My Business, Google Docs, using Canva.com, using Excel and blogging for business
Perfect Your Pitch – learn to share your story, explain your value and be persuasive
GovHack – using open source government data to create useful applications or communications

Mentor Blaze – state-wide speed mentoring
Founder Fest — entrepreneur experience for teenagers
In-House Mentoring — at Canvas Coworking or using Skype or Google Hangouts for regional and remote community members.
Joy was first recognised as a Community Digital Champion in 2016. As a continuing Champion, she will continue to support regional women through the WiRE (women in rural, regional and remote enterprise) project team. She will assist others to embrace digital opportunities and build entrepreneurial skills, behaviour, competencies and capacity by sharing knowledge in order to create sustainable change.
