Eliza Kennedy - Round 3, 2016 Champion

Consultation has concluded

Eliza Kennedy

Digital Citizenship - It’s not about the “likes”

As a former recruitment manager, Eliza Kennedy is acutely aware of the positive power of social media. Eliza now helps young people create career opportunities through online networking and positive personal branding.

Her Be Social. Be Smart program encourages high school and university students to use social media to their advantage. Rather than cautioning young people against the perils of social media use, Eliza is a passionate social media advocate, and shows students how to be pro-active and utilise all that these platforms have to offer. She inspires students to engage with social media in a way that maximises opportunities for networking, entrepreneurship, employment and career development.

Eliza aims to prepare young people for a globalised workforce by educating them in strategic and effective digital sharing, connecting and communicating.

Some of the ways Eliza inspires students to harness the power of social media include:

  • running school workshops that teach students how to build a personal online social resume that demonstrates their potential, showcases their talents and accomplishments, and opens doors in the future
  • promoting the advantages of social media via a co-ordinated campaign of regular blog articles, LinkedIn, and daily posting on a variety of social media channels
  • working with students to be social media ambassadors.

Eliza will continue her work in social media education with students. As a digital champion she is keen to extend her reach to help parents, teachers and vulnerable youth in her community to better understand digital citizenship and the power of social media platforms.

Eliza is nominated by: Brisbane State High School.
