Ashish Shah

Promoting digital technologies for community and infrastructure industry betterment

Ashish Shah is a road asset and systems professional at Logan City Council. After completing a bachelor of civil engineering, to align with his envisioned new wave of digital age, he pursued a masters of Information Technology from RMIT in 2001. This further nurtured his STEM skills and research, innovation and entrepreneurial mindset.

Ashish provides mentoring to emerging engineers, technical officers and trainees and freely shares his knowledge through online groups, blogging, Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn and forums for public works professionals. He has lead number of regional collaboration, knowledge share and co-working opportunities and projects with capability and professional development focus.

Following his belief that adoption of digital technologies enables social, economic and environmental betterment, Ashish passionately devotes his personal time to promote and support digital initiatives in his community.

Some of the projects and activities he is involved in are:

  • founder and organiser of the annual STEM Professionals networking technical forum and biannually group discussion on smart communities @ smart cities
  • active participant of digital and innovation ecosystem community in South East Queensland
  • LinkedIn group founder and contributor for the Australian Indian Professionals Network, which shares knowledge on topics including digital disruption, smart cities and the shared economy
  • guest content contributor promoting smart cities/smart communities/smart apps/digital start-ups in newspapers of the Indian- Australian community
  • Admin and moderator of the Facebook page for the community-driven Local Neighborhood Watch.

He also contributes as committee member of not for profit industry organisations of public works officers, professional engineers and as member of active member of smart communities association.

As a digital champ, Ashish will continue to progress on:

  • facilitate cross-industry innovation and digital initiatives transformation
  • establishing the co-working space hub (as social enterprise) in Logan
  • open data, “crowdsourcing” data exchange, information interoperability and open source/shared economy initiatives and opportunities
  • the 2nd annual STEM Professionals networking technical forum in September 2016 and group discussion on smart communities in July 2016
  • to co-organise Startup Weekend or similar incubator event in Logan in early 2017
  • to improve safety and cohesion through improved local neighborhood community interaction via digital adoption and upskill for faster and easier information exchange.
